Patti Larkin wooed me and wowed me last night.
She played
the Friends House Concert series at the Lucketts' home and
it
was a delicious show. She still has that thumpy edginess
in her guitar playing as well as a wet alto voice that kinda
begs
you just to . . .drop in. Both Kristen and I were taken
with
her. It made me happy to be doing what I'm doing. When
I see someone like her, though, I wish I were doing more
of it.
Thanks to the Switzers' in South Bend and St. Alfonsus'
parish in Chicago for hosting the shows for Susan Rissman
and I. We
had a great trip despite the fact that we never saw
the temperature get higher than 14F. Still, I can tell that
Chicago could be "my kind of town" if I ever get
the chance to spend
some real time there. Oprah wants me, I just know it.
I have so enjoyed singing with Susan Rissman
again after
much of the last year singing alone. Susan will join me
at the
First Congregational Church on Friday Feb. 23rd for my third
annual
Soul Link show. (We may also have a drop in guest or two
whose
names shall remain anonymous for the time being. If they
show,
though, it will be a night to remember.) Fri. Feb. 23rd.
7-9pm
First Congregational Church 30 E. St. Vrain. $10 presales
$12 at
the door. Soul Link is a local non profit whose mission
is to
promote an awareness of the sacred in everyday life. You
can
visit their web site at www.soullinkonline.org for more
information
about their upcoming events and to find out more about them.
I've
had the priviledge of attending a few of their day retreats
(and
presenting at one), and have always found the events to
be
motivating and somewhat disturbing in that "let's get
real"
kind of way. I love stuff like that. Anyway, this show will
be a
collection of original material from my upcoming CD, as
well as
some interesting cover material and a few old favorites.
Here's the rest of my upcoming shows:
Sunday, March 4th. Rocky Mt. Church of
Religious Science 10 service Hillside Neighborhood Community
Center. Theme "Emergence" with Hellen and Phil
Hollar
Fri. March 16th A house concert in Old
Colorado City at the Old Town Guesthouse (corner of
26th and Colorado on 26th) Showtime: 7:00pm Tickets are
$10 prepay and $12 at the door. (Contact luxury@oldtown-guesthouse.com
for reservations Credit cards will be accepted.) This venue
is really fabulous. Also, you can make it a complete night
by booking a room and spending the night here. Concert attendees
get %10 off a room. The rooms are incredible and the service
even better. If you don't believe me. . .ask my wife Kristen.
Sunday, March 18th. A local legend
who years ago moved to Houston, Texas to pursue his songwriting
dreams, Ken Gaines, will be performing with his music partner
vocalist/violinist Karen Mal at the First Congregational
Church at30 E. St. Vrain just north of downtown on the corner
of Tejon and St. Vrain. Ken has a strong fingerstyle picking
guitar technique, a really powerful voice and a killer batch
of tunes which I've been enjoying for the last month or
so. You can check out his web site at www.kengaines.com
He has also had the priviledge (I would kill for this gig)
of co- hosting the songwriter's night at Anderson Fair in
Houston for the last 7 years! That is THE Anderson Fair
of red brick floor fame where Nanci Griffith recorded her
ridiculously wonderful live CD back about 1992 or so. Ken
and Karen have a lovely vocal blend and their music is just
enough country to make you tap your feet, but not so much
so that you think, "Aw hell, they're too damn Texas".
If you love pool, fishing, or romantic moonlit nights you
will love these guys. I WILL DO A SHORT OPENER FOR THIS
SHOW, as requested...
New Hampshire bound the last weekend in
March.

Sue Martin. Technically this concert will be held in a location
that the Martins' term. . . "the barn". I've been
told that it is
a wonderful venue where other shows have been held. Having
grown
up on a farm, though, I am preparing myself to not be surprised,
just in case. 7:30pm showtime. $15 at the door. Contact
Cathy
Higgins at cghweb@comcast.net for reservations and furthur
information or call 603-225-8201
The Community Church of Durham (Durham, N.H.)

songs for the Palm Sunday service in the morning 10 AM service
time
and then will perform a concert that night. $10 at the door.
