"Summer Schedule, Touring and 'Driving' Now Available"

The Olive Branch All Original Songwriter Night has died, though there will be one performance on May 8th which is a songwriter in the round with myself Carla Sciaky and Bernice Williams.(see below) I want to thank the small cache of folks who showed up somewhat regularly to make it last as long as it did. You know who you are. Really, it was a valiant effort on all of our parts.

I also want to publically thank Mark Meltzer, the owner of the Olive Branch, for consistently extending himself (via his wait staff and his venue) for me and for other songwriters during the last 8 months. For those of you who do not know Mark personally, he is a quiet local hero for me. I won't go into details here, but I have seen him extend long time kindnesses to more than a few people. His support of them was for me inspirational and caused me to think about how I myself treat others. It is hard to own a business for a long time and I'm certain he hasn't been a perfect business owner, but I have a short list with heroic people's names on it. His is there. If you aren't sure about where to go for a brunch, lunch or dinner sometime, please consider the Olive Branch, not just because it's won the "Best of" for Breakfasts for something like 10 years, but because it is a place where Mark has for almost 30 years tried to treat people with kindness and respect. Thank you Mark for all of this.

Despite the fact that we struggled with our sound system at First Congregational for what turned into a GIANT Cd release concert on April 11th, we had a blast. More than 300 people turned out and we went through almost 200 CD's. Obviously that was huge for us in terms of recouping the outlay of funds for the CD. The Gazette called "Driving" outstanding and the headline was " 'Driving' to Stardom". Although I'm certain the songwriting and production are on that level, we'll have to wait and see if we can position ourselves in such a way that lady luck smiles 'stardom' on us. At this juncture in my career, I am overjoyed to be where I am.

If you don't have a copy of "Driving" and would like one, you know what to do. Stop at 712 S. Tejon St. and pick one up. Just leave a check for $15 made out to me in one of the envelopes provided or you can mail me a check for $17 and I'll mail you a disc back. Joe Uveges 222 LaClede Ave. C.S. CO 80906 On behalf of Susan and KJ we want to thank you all for your support. We also want to thank Mark Smith on drums, Ken Janzen on keys and Marty Sarlette on sax for their incredible work at the CD release concert. Our next full gig with band will be held at the BAC in Manitou (Venue 515)on Friday June 27th 8pm. Contact the BAC for details. We will have presale tickets available for $15. Day of the event they are $20. This may be the only full band event we do this summer.

It was at this church one year ago that I wrote a version of and performed "Were You There", the old hymn about Jesus' death on the cross. The pastor Rev. Mary Westfall offered me the opportunity to do it during the service. When I returned to Co. Springs I sent a copy of it to a publishing company in California called "Goodnight Kiss Music" who promptly decided to include it in a compilation disc of old hymn's done in new ways. The disc, I've heard, is simply wonderful. To be out in the next month or so.
