In an echo of the wonderful Ecclesiastes verse (and later "Byrds" hit) "To everything there is a season. . . " Susan Rissman, Joe Uveges, and KJ Briathwaite have combined gifts to create a magical CD entitled "Driving".
The trio first performed together more than 12 years ago in a bar band called "Amicus" which was an acoustic/rock cover band. The band had about a 7 year life span, died an organic death, and then like the phoenix, burst alive again in this trio.
Susan Rissman has been one of the principal female vocalists in Colorado Springs for more than 15 years. She's toured the country as primary vocalist for "Tiny Barge and the Big Chill" numerous times and has played virtually every major (and minor) venue on the Colorado Springs music scene with her most recent work being with KJ Braithwaite fronting "Blues Fuse" . Her voice is one part ripping blues diva, one part broken princess, one part folk mistress and one part "Scat", Queen of Springs Funk. Trying her hand at songwriting for the first time, she is writer or co-writer on 3 songs on the disc and creative visionary on numerous others. Fans in Colorado Springs have waited many years for Susan's voice to be featured on a disc. "Driving" gives her a place on the recorded road that she has so long deserved.
KJ Braithwaite, who has constantly played in bands since high school in Salt Lake City, Utah, and spent 10 years playing on the Western Slope of Colorado (including a few hundred bars), has long labored in the confines of his living room perfecting his songwriting skills and his tasteful guitar stylings brings a rockabilly, country, blues flair to the trio. Both an amazing acoustic player and a "Clapton-esque" electric guitar player, KJ has added the mandolin to his arsenal of musical talents. Probably his greatest gift, though, is his ability to hear and play songs in new and wonderful ways. This gives the trio an added dimension during live performances. Sonically, his voice adds gravel to the low end texture of three part harmonies which blends nicely with Susan's high end power and Joe Uveges' mid range sweetness.
| ..."An eclectic blend of extraordinarily visual original songs in the folk, blues, country, rock and even the "bump and grind dance" genre's. Themes of "love, loss, yearning, grace inside the fight, and hopefulness"... |
